Childrens Network Pilot gets off to impressive start!

13.06.11

Keys Group are delighted to announce that in consultation with our children/young people we have developed, over several months,  a successful Children's Network within Keys Attachment sector that is being rolled out across the Organisation.

Children/young people, irrespective of age, race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, particular needs/difficulties etc. will continue to be encouraged to contribute at whatever level they wish and with the required level of support/resources -  every child will have a voice.  The Children's Network Logo has been developed entirely by children and young people

The Children's Network provides a face to face forum for elected children/young people to raise their questions, ideas and suggestions with the Chief Operating Officer and Managing Directors of all Keys services, and to receive a response.

Staff are being trained on improving skills for working in consultation with children/young people by the Principal Participation Team of Lincolnshire County Council.  We have benefitted from consultation services provided by their Principal Participation Officer throughout the development process.

At the first meeting in Rawtenstall last month, stand in COO Emma Beech was faced with several very thoughtful and heartfelt questions from the Childrens Reps which ranged from shed maintenance (to keep the rain from leaking in and making bikes rusty) through to pocket money, computer/printer packages for childrens use only, improvements to holidays and Sky TV!

The Keys Group looks forward to the rollout of the pilot to all of our services in all corners of the UK and is bracing itself for more challenges from a wider group of Childrens representatives.
